Our goal as beef producers is not only to provide the best care for our customers' animals, but also to educate people on the health benefits of eating beef. Each spring, the kindergarten classes from Yerington Elementary School tour our feedlot and learn why beef is an important part of a healthy diet and how the animals are cared for at our feedlot. |
Our annual "Bulls for the 21st Century" bull sale highlights the best bulls available anywhere on the west coast. The bulls are sold in an auction after going through a rigorous 120 day evaluation period. The evaluation includes weight gain during the test, epd and lineage ranking, semen testing, ultrasound testing, and physical appearance ranking. Breeds sold at our bull sale include Herefords, Charolais, Angus, Red Angus, Gelbvieh, and a few others. In 2006 we installed a state of the art electronic feed measurement system that tracks the consumption of each individual animal to the mouthful. Radio ID tags inserted into the ears of the animals and individual feed bunks mounted on scales accurately calculate the amount of feed each animal consumes. This, coupled with individual animal weight gains give us feed efficiency numbers for each animal. The system also allows us to track the daily consumption of feed so we can watch for any irregularities which might indicate disease or other problem with a particular animal. If you are interested in our feedlot operation, make sure to come visit us on your next trip to the Reno, Nevada area. |
