On the Saturday before the bull sale, Snyder Livestock holds an informative seminar for all livestock producers. This year's seminar will feature Paul Epstein, the owner of C3 - Calculated Cost Containment who brings the ultimate consumer point of view to beef producers, Andy Reiber, the contributing editor to the Western Livestock Journal who will focus on public land issues, and Kyle Pfeiffer who is the account manager with Merck Animal Health who will discuss the role of technology in a sustainable beef industry. The seminar will begin at 4 PM on Saturday, March 10th at the Casino West Convention Center in Yerington. Be sure to attend to learn more about the beef industry and to enjoy cowboy camaraderie with your fellow beef producers. This year we have 169 consigned bulls for the test and we plan to sell 120 of the bulls in the sale. The bulls are evaluated in seven areas. Individual scores for fertility, weight gain on the test, conformation, muscle structure, ultrasound data, feed efficiency, and weaning performance contribute to the total ranking of the bulls. The feed efficiency test data is included in the test again this year. Equipment produced by GrowSafe Systems provides individualized feed and water consumption. This data is then utilized to calculate feed efficiency for each bull. Snyder Livestock is the first bull test in the Western united States to incorporate feed efficiency into the testing data. |
