On the Saturday before the bull sale, Snyder Livestock holds an informative seminar for all livestock producers. This year's seminar will again be a panel discussion moderated by Trent Loos. The subject of the discussion is "Letting Consumers Tell Us How to Produce Beef...How Far Do We Go?" Panel members include Mark Lacey, a cow calf producer and chairman of California Cattlemen's Association Animal Welfare Task Force, Matt Steinbaugh, feedlot manager for Smith Valley Cattle Feeders, and Wayne Langston, Production VP for Panorama Organic Grass Fed Meats. The seminar begins at 4:00 PM at the Casino West Convention Center.

This year we have 150 consigned bulls for the test and we plan to sell 120 of the bulls in the sale. The bulls are evaluated in seven areas. Individual scores for fertility, weight gain on the test, conformation, muscle structure, ultrasound data, feed efficiency, and weaning performance contribute to the total ranking of the bulls.

The feed efficiency test data is included in the test again this year. Equipment produced by GrowSafe Systems provides individualized feed and water consumption. This data is then utilized to calculate feed efficiency for each bull. Snyder Livestock is the first bull test in the Western united States to incorporate feed efficiency into the testing data.
